This past holiday season, several Valley Junior Warriors teams took a break from their on-ice activities to give back to the community. It is just another way in which the Warriors program fosters a sense of teamwork and community awareness.
While the players raised money for important local charities, there are also many parents and coaches who are doing the same.
Ben Budds, assistant coach of the '97 Selects team and father of a young Warriors player, will be running in the 112th Boston Marathon as a member of the 2008 Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC) team. All monies raised will go towards essential cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The DFMC raises funds for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber. Established by J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver in 1987, the Claudia Adams Barr Program fosters scientific breakthroughs by advancing the work of gifted researchers in a variety of basic research disciplines. The DFMC directs 100% of funds raised to the Barr Program, which enables scientists at the leading edge of discovery to achieve better cure rates and to enhance patients' quality of life.
Ben Budds will be running in memory of his father who lost his battle with cancer 10 years ago. If you would like to support Ben's run or learn more about worthy causes such as this, click here.
We would like to thank all of the players and families for their support of the Valley Junior Warriors program and the many great fundraising initiatives.
