Valley Jr Warrior Teams Dominate at Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament

The script could not have been written any more perfect for the Valley Jr Warriors.

As host of arguably the most popular November tournament in the Northeast, the Warrior teams dominated at the 2014 Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament held this weekend.

Five divisions – ’01, ’02, ’03, ’04 and ’05 – were featured and VJW teams advanced to the playoffs in all five divisions and three teams captured divisional titles.

Finishing atop their division and claiming championship titles were the VJW ’01 Elites, ’02 Elites and ’04 Elites. The VJW ’03 Elites finished as runner up, while the VJW ’05 Elites advanced to the semifinals.

Here is a rundown on the tremendous performance by the VJW teams!

VJW ’01 Elites def. Wizards 01, 6-3
After dropping its first game of the tournament to the Bock Blazers by a score of 4-2, the Warriors were simply unstoppable from that point forward. Through its next five games, the VJW ’01 Elites outscored its opponents by a 28-to-6 margin. The impressive string of play included two shutout performances against the DS Riverhawks and Troy Albany.

The Warriors capped of its championship run with a strong 6-3 win over the Wizards – 01 in Haverhill. It was an especially sweet win as the Wizards currently stand atop the ’01 Division Elite 9 standings and were on a seven-game league win streak… that was until the Warriors upended them en route to what is the team’s third straight Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament title.

VJW ’04 Elites def. Patriots 04 - Elite, 4-3
The road to its second straight Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament is one that will not soon be forgotten.

After posting a 4-0 record during the round-robin part of the event, the Warriors earned themselves a semifinal showdown against Elite 9 foe Boston Advantage 04 – Elite. A repeat title did not look promising as time was winding down as the Warriors trailed by a score of 3-1 with five minutes left in regulation. Defying the odds, the VJW ’04 Elites stormed back to tie the score and force extra time. They prevailed by a score of 4-3 to earn a spot in the championship game.

More heroics were needed on Sunday. Following three periods of play and one overtime session, the Warriors were deadlocked by a score of 3-3 with the Patriots 04 – Elites. The Warriors finally prevailed in a shootout for its second – and very sweet – Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament title.

Although they did not capture divisional titles, the VJW ’03 Elites and VJW ’05 Elites ensured that the Warriors were represented in the playoffs in all five divisions.

The VJW ’03 Elites earned the top seed in the 03 Blue Division after registering a flawless 4-0 record during the round robin. The Warriors advanced to the finals after a 4-2 win against the GB Vipers 03, but they came up just short in the final game verses the Wizards 03 – Elite.

In the ’05 Division, the VJW ’05 Elites earned a spot in the semifinals and a showdown with the Patriots 05 – Elite. In what was a hard-fought game, the Patriots scored with one second left in the first period and held on to that advantage and until they sealed the victory with an empty-net tally with less than two minutes remaining in that semifinal tilt.

A total of seven VJW teams competed in this year’s Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament and combined for an impressive 25 wins over a three-day period.
