Two VJW Players Named Elite 9 Hockey League Players of the Week
The VJW ’03 Elite team continues to cruise along this season.
The talented group – which captured a league title last spring – is off to a strong start in Elite 9 Hockey League play with a division-leading 9-1-0 record.
The Warriors have also won 12 of its last 13 games this season, a stretch which dates back to August 23.
That stretch of play included five victories and a tournament title at the 2014 Warrior National Showcase where the team took on top talent from across New England.
The nationally-ranked VJW ’03 squad most recently gained league recognition for its play during the week ending on October 19th when the Warriors defeated the Wizards 03 – Elites (8-6) and the Seacoast 03 – Elites (4-3).
In addition to collecting two key league wins, one player - Drew Blackwell – was named the E9 Player of the Week.
Blackwell powered his way to league honors by notching three goals against the Wizards and then following that up the following day by scoring the game winner against Seacoast.
Blackwell was one of three Warriors to earn that title that week.
Also collecting league recognition was Eric Lester of the VJW ’00 Elites and Evan Pennucci of the VJW '04 Elites. Lester registered two goals and three assists in a huge 6-0 Warrior win over the Glades, while Pennucci delivered a hat trick to propel his team past the Wizards by a score of 5-4.
Both the VJW ’03 Elites and the VJW ’00 Elites currently stand atop the 2000 Elite 9 standings, while the VJW '04 Elites are third with a record of 6-3-2.
