This year’s coverage of the Super 8 Hockey Tournament read more like a Valley Junior Warrior game roundup.
After all, for the past few years the rosters of the Super 8 semifinalists have been dominated by Warrior players.
One year ago, the Warriors had 33 of its
former or current players representing nearly half of all Super 8
competitors be a part of the semifinals.
This year, it is much of the same and the
Warrior players were simply dominating as two teams – Austin Prep and
Malden Catholic – made it to the finals and faced off at the TD
Garden for the ultimate Bay State high school title.
More than 40% of the players who competed in the Super 8 Hockey Championship final game were either current or former
Warrior players. No other program in the region can lay claim to such an
In that final game where Malden Catholic prevailed for its fourth-consecutive Division 1A title, there were 16 Warrior players on
the TD Bank ice surface and five of the eight goals scored came off the stick of Warrior players.
Tyler Sifferlen (2) and Ara Nazarian both scored for Malden Catholic, while Bobo Carpenter (2) lit the lamp for Austin Prep.
The final game was a continuation of great play from the days leading up to the championship showdown.
In one semifinal game, it was Sifferlen and Nazarian
– two former Junior B standouts – who combined to score Malden
Catholic’s first goal to lead their team past Springfield Cathedral and
into the finals for a fourth straight season.
In the other semifinal, Elijah Harris registered a game-high 30 saves and JJ Layton, Carpenter and Eric MacAdams all scored during an eight-round shootout to lead Austin Prep over BC High.
There is no rest for eight of the
players as they will come together next week to begin practices as part of
the VJW U16 Tier I team. Back in November, the talented squad captured
its third Massachusetts State Championship title.
As a result of that outstanding performance, the Warriors – led by Head Coach Steve MacAdams – will represent the organization at the 2014 USA Hockey U16 Tier I National Championship scheduled for April 2-6, 2014 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Before that time, the Warriors would like to congratulate all of its players on a great high school season!
