So Much to Look Forward to - VJW Tryout Season Begins This Week

While Valley Jr Warriors teams are busy preparing for the upcoming New England Hockey League Championships, plans for the 2014-15 season are already underway.

Tryouts for the new season begin this week at the Haverhill Valley Forum for all Mite Minor (2007 & Younger), Mite Major (2006) and Squirt Minor (2005) competitors. This is the time when players - Mite through Bantam – aim to become a part of New England's premier AAA youth hockey program for the 2014-15 season.

It should be an especially exciting season as the Valley Jr Warriors as the program was named one of six charter members of the newly-formed Elite 9 Hockey League.

Here is an overview of the Program Structure that truly makes the Valley Jr Warrior program one of the elite teams in New England. After all, it is the program that program developed NHL stars Chris Kreider and Corey Schneider, nearly 10% of the players who competed in this year's 62nd Beanpot Tournament and 33 of the competitors in last year's Super 8 Semifinals!

Elite 9 & Boston Hockey League: The Jr. Warriors will compete in the newly formed Elite 9 Hockey League for the 2014-15 Season.  The Warriors are one of six charter members and will have their elite teams compete against the top 9 teams in New England across all age levels. The Jr. Warrior Select Teams will compete in the Boston Hockey League (BHL), which will provide these teams an opportunity to compete against Tier I teams from across New England.

Team Practices: All Jr. Warriors teams practice two to three times per week (70 practices over 30 weeks).  Practices are used to reinforce the basic skill sessions and to coordinate the systems used for team play. These practices are conducted by the coaching staff of each team, consisting of some of the finest and most qualified coaches in the area and under the supervision of the full-time Warriors professional staff.

Skills Sessions and Power Skating Sessions: Throughout the season, the emphasis on skating and skill development continues on a weekly basis.  These sessions are conducted by the full-time Jr. Warriors staff, and all Warriors players are required to participate.  Each team has one skill and powerskating session per week for 30 weeks.

Goaltending Sessions: Throughout the season, the emphasis on goaltending skill development continues on a weekly basis with instruction by Stop It Goaltending.  Warrior goaltenders are required to participate and are provided the opportunity for 1-on-1 instruction for 30 weeks.

Plyometrics/Strength Training: Throughout the 30-week season, Squirt through Junior level players participate in once a week off-ice training at the Warriors state-of-the-art facility.  This training is conducted by Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning, which boasts one of the top certified training staffs in New England.  Each team’s regimen is tailor made in order to provide the most beneficial and age appropriate training.

Spring League: The objective of the Spring League is to allow skaters an opportunity to get to know each other in a low-key, less intense environment.  These games take place once per week from May through June and are optional particularly with Mites through Squirts where the priority is placed on other spring sports (i.e. baseball, lacrosse)

Training Camp: A week-long pre-season training camp is used to begin furthering skill development through the introduction and practice of individual drills. The camp is also where basic hockey systems that will be used throughout the season are introduced. The camp is run by Andy Heinze, Steve MacAdams and a professional staff which includes college coaches from the New England area.

Feel free to contact the coach of your age level (click here for a list of 2014-15 coaches) or VJW program director Steve MacAdams at 978-557-5518 ext 102 or smacadams@valley-associates.com.

We look forward to seeing you all at tryouts!
