Charlie Widmar & Shane Tracy Named EHL Mid-Season All Stars
Two well-deserving members of the VJW Junior A squad earned mid-season league recognition.
As a result of their strong play thus far, Charlie Widmar (Northbrook, IL) and Shane Tracy (Bow, NH) were named Second-Team All Stars by the Eastern Hockey League (EHL).
The two forwards have been offensive sparkplugs for the Warriors this season. Through 24 games, Tracy leads the team in scoring with 21 points (8g, 13a), while Widmar has notched 7 goals and 13 assists.
While they are enjoying their first year with the Warriors, Widmar and Tracy became well acquainted this past summer when VJW Junior A Head Coach Andy Heinze paired them together at the 2013 Eastern Summer Showcase.
The duo have clearly adjusted well to junior hockey as they are earning the respect of the EHL coaches. Both players were instrumental in the
Warriors' latest victory on Saturday. The VJW Junior A team defeated the
Boston Junior Rangers by a score of 5-3. In that contest, Tracy registered two assists, while Widmar added one assist.
A total of 23 players were recognized on the first and second teams, as decided by a panel of EHL coaches and Mark Kumpel, EHL Director of Hockey Operations.
“Our final all-star teams will be voted on and announced at the
end of the year, but this is a recognition of the players and their
performance so far,” said Kumpel. “Our own coaches nominated their
players and I spoke with plenty of NCAA coaches about these players
while compiling this list.”
Widmar and Tracy, as well as all of the talented Warrior
players, can be seen playing on their home ice on Friday, December 13
against the Boston Junior Rangers. The team will then take on the New
Hampshire Jr Monarchs - on December 14.
Following those two key
league contests, the Warriors will take part - on December 20-22 - in
the EHL Christmas Showcase at the International Skating Center in
