It was a reunion of sorts for four former VJW players.

On November 20, Boston College - ranked 7th in the nation - faced off against Harvard University in Cambridge. The match-up not only featured two formidable Beanpot foes, but it also brought together Colin Blackwell, Devin Tringale, Ryan Fitzgerald and Brendan Silk. All four standouts have played key roles for their respective teams

The eldest of the three - Blackwell - spent most of his developmental years playing for the Warriors for coaches such as Peter King and Mike Holubowich and helped his teams advance to USA Hockey Nationals in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

A two-sport standout at St. John's Prep (Danvers), Blackwell set a single-season school scoring record with 66 points (33 goals, 33 assists) as a senior and graduated as the fourth-leading scorer all-time for the Eagles. He was also the 2010-11 Massachusetts High School Hockey Coaches Association Robbie Ftorek Player of the Year and was selected in the seventh round (194th pick overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks.

During his freshman season at Harvard, Blackwell made school history by becoming the first Harvard player since 2002 to record four helpers in a game. He was a Walter Brown Award semifinalist and an ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection that season.

Sidelined by injuries late last season, Blackwell has yet to suit up for the Crimson this season as a junior but there is no question that Harvard Head Coach Ted Donato - as well as the San Jose Sharks - will look for big things from this talented player down the stretch.

Another Crimson who has seen plenty of ice time is Tringale. Eight months ago, Tringale was wearing a Warriors jersey and helping the VJW Junior A team advance in the league playoffs. He finished that season with a remarkable 37 points in 45 games and was part of the nationally-recognized trio that included Fitzgerald and Brendan Collier. In 2012, Tringale was selected to play in the First Inaugural USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo, New York.

Tringale no doubt spent a few minutes catching up with Fitzgerald, who has already made his mark at Boston College. Earlier this month, Fitzgerald earned the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honor thanks to a strong performance against Northeastern on November 1 where he scored the game-winning tally. He scored what was his third goal of the season the following night. To date, Fitzgerald has posted six goals and seven assists in 13 games.

All eyes have been firmly set on Fitzgerald, especially after he was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. It was no surprise that the home-town team snatched the rights to Fitzgerald. After all, earlier that year he had been named MVP of the first ever USHL/NHL Top Prospect Game and registered 30 points in 26 regular season games for the Warriors. He also added three goals and three assists in six playoff games en route to being named EJHL Rookie of the Year.

Fitzgerald is joined on that Boston College roster with another former Warrior player, Brendan Silk. Silk, a sophomore, was a Warrior youth standout before he was named to the U.S. National U-18 team in 2011-12 where he played in 42 games. He was also a member of the 2012 U.S. National U-18 select team at the Five Nations Tournament in Pori, Finland in February 2012.

And for those keeping score at home, Boston College got the best of Harvard that night as Fitzgerald extended his point streak to seven games with a multi-point performance. In order for the two teams to meet again this season, they will have to win their semifinal games at the Beanpot, which begins on February 3.
