Former VJW Junior A standout Ryan Fitzgerald has won two rookie awards in a span of just six months.
Back in March, Fitzgerald was named the EJHL Rookie of the Year after an outstanding season with the VJW Junior A team. Fast forward and Fitzgerald is earning more accolades... this time on the national stage.
The first-year forward at Boston College picked up the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honor during the first week of November thanks to a strong performance against Hockey East foe Northeastern.
Fitzgerald strung together his first goal-scoring streak as an Eagle,
potting the game-winning marker in a 4-2 triumph over Northeastern on
Friday at Kelley Rink. The following night, the 5-9 forward was all over
the ice and eventually scored his third goal of the season.
The local product scored his first collegiate goal in a 7-2 triumph
against Rensselaer on Oct. 13 and followed that with a pair of assist in
a 9-2 beating of Wisconsin on Oct. 18.
Fitzgerald currently stands fourth on
Boston College with four goals and five assists through nine games
This past summer, Fitzgerald was selected by the Boston Bruins in the 4th round (120th
overall). He was one of 12 New England-born players selected in the seven rounds and the second highest player drafted out of the EJHL.
During his time with the Warriors, Fitzgerald posted 30 points in just 26 games.
