VJW '00 Elites Capture 2013 East Coast Classic Prep Cup Tournament Title
The VJW 00 Elites took on a huge early-season challenge and proved that they were up to the test.
Facing some of the nation's top-ranked teams, the Warriors competed in the 2013 East Coast Classic Prep Cup Tournament held last weekend.
Over the course of three days, the Warriors posted a 5-0-1 record en route to capturing the East Coast Prep Cup 2000 Division. The title was claimed in exciting fashion as the VJW '00 Elite team - ranked 30th in the nation according to www.myhockeyrankings.com - defeated the 15th-ranked Long Island Royals by a score of 2-1 in overtime at Lawrence Academy.
It all began well for the Warriors on day one when they posted a 5-0 win over the New Hampshire Avalanche 00 squad. On the second day of action, the Warriors fought for a 2-2 tie against the Middlesex Islanders Elites during the morning hours, but rebounded in the afternoon with a 4-2 victory against Team Comcast, which is ranked 20th in the nation.
The VJW '00 Elites backed up that win by posting another "W" against Team Comcast, this time it was a 3-2 decision. In the semifinals, the Warriors battled to a 2-1 victory over the Greater Boston Vipers before setting the stage for a dramatic and overtime championship win against the Royals.
With this latest string of victories, the VJW '00 Elites have now 8-1-1 in the team's last 10 games. The talented squad will next be in action on Sunday, November 3rd when they face off against New England Hockey League (NEHL) foe, the New Hampshire Avalanche 00s.
