Season Ends for VJW Junior A Team in EJHL Semifinals
The VJW Junior A season came to an end on Sunday afternoon when the Warriors were defeated in the EJHL Dineen Cup Semifinal Series. The Warriors advanced to the semifinals after completing a sweep of the South Shore Kings in the quarterfinals one week earlier.
It marked the third straight season that the VJW Junior A team had advanced to the quarterfinals and the first time in four years that they had made a semifinal appearance.
“I am proud of our performance this year,” said Andy Heinze, head coach/GM of the VJW Junior A team. “Throughout the season our kids worked and battled hard and evne in the face of injuries down the stretch we performed well against a very tough and balanced league.”
In the semifinals, the Warriors could not manage to get past the Islanders Hockey Club which defeated the Warriors on Saturday and Sunday to set up a showdown against the Jersey Hitmen in the EJHL Dineen Cup Championship Series.
Leading the team offensively this season was Brendan Collier(Charlestown, MA), who finished with 42 points in 43 games. He was followed closely by John Jackson(Bixby, OK) and Devin Tringale(Medford), who netted 38 and 37 points, respectively. During the Warriors’ playoff run, it was John Needham(Medford, MA) and Tringale who led the way with seven points apiece. Ryan Fitzgerald (North Reading, MA) and Collier also came up big with six points each.
While Heinze will welcome back a talented group next season, he is proud to see many of his players continue on to play at the next level. Here is a snapshot of where you can see these superstars compete next season.
