Former VJW Star Loren Barron Leads Top-Ranked Quinnipiac
For the third straight week, the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team was ranked as the No. 1 team in college hockey. The Bobcats received 37 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and 30 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Quinnipiac also remains in the top spot in the PairWise Rankings.
That news is especially sweet for one former VJW Junior A player - Loren Barron - who has been one of the Bobcats' leaders along the blueline. Barron, who was an EJHL All Star selection and the Warriors' top point getter among defensemen during the 2008 season, has played in 32 games thus far for Quinnipiac and posted three assists and 10 assists.
The 6-1 senior who hails from Glendora (CA) posted a team-high +9 for the season during his junior campaign. Most recently, Barron helped his Quinnipiac team to a 4-1 win against No. 13 Yale on Friday, Feb. 22
in an ECAC Hockey match-up that was nationally broadcast on NBC Sports.
With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 10-0-0 against ranked opponents
while also completing the season sweep against the Bulldogs for the
first time since 2008. Following a 3-3 tie against Brown on Saturday,
the Bobcats are currently 23-4-5 overall and 16-1-3 in ECAC Hockey.
fans will have a chance to cheer on the former VJW star when Barron and
his Bobcats travel to Cambridge to take on Harvard on Friday, March 1st
in Cambridge. Also playing in that highly-anticipated game will be another former VJW star - Colin Blackwell - who has been one of the freshman standouts for the Crimson this season.
