The VJW Junior A team completed a weekend sweep of the Portland Jr Pirates this past weekend to move within one point of second place in the Eastern Junior Hockey League's (EJHL) Eastern Division.
The Warriors erupted for 15 goals in two games at the MHG Ice Center in Saco, Maine. On Saturday, John Jackson and Ryan Fitzgerald both scored twice and Jake Schechter finished with three assists to pace the Warriors to a 7-5 win.
The game was deadlocked at two goals after one period, but the Warriors scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the contest. Marcus Born made 30 saves for the victory in net.
The following day, the Warriors held a 4-3 lead after two periods but dominated in the third stanza by scoring four time to claim the 8-5 win over Portland. The Warriors enjoyed a well balanced attack which featured eight different goal scorers - Devin Tringale, Nick Pichette, Gus Harms, Joe Lappin, Davin Smith, Joe Scarfo, Nick Leonard and John Needham. The Warriors finished the game with 47 shots on net.
The Warriors will hit the road once again this weekend as they face off against Connecticut on December 22 and December 23.
