VJW Junior Teams Continue to Win Big in League Play
Thirteen games into the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) season, the Valley Jr Warriors continue to stand atop the Northern Division with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses.
In addition to leading their own division, the Warriors are also one of just three teams to have posted 20 points.
Helping their cause was a weekend split with the New Hampshire Monarchs.
On Saturday, the Warriors – despite scoring efforts by Ryan Fitzgerald(North Reading, MA) and Nick Pichette(Messena, NY) and a 28-save performance by Marcus Born(Kumia, Sweden) – fell by a score of 4-2 to the Monarchs. In that contest, the Monarchs scored three unanswered power-play goals in the third period to secure the win.
The Warriors stormed back the following
day, however, and picked up the team’s first shootout win of the young
season. Before the exciting finale, the VJW Junior As kept pace with the
Monarchs thanks to tallies by DevinTringale (Medford, MA), Perry Holcombe (Cummings, GA) and Joe Lappin (Geneva, IL).
In the shootout, John Jackson (Bixby, OK) scored on his team’s second attempt, while Brendan Leahy (Reading, MA)turned away all three Monarch attempts to pick up his sixth win of the season.

with 258 saves and second with one shutout.
Meanwhile in Empire Hockey League action, the VJW Junior B team was capturing its fourth win of the season on Saturday in similar fashion – a shootout.
in part to a five-goal second period, the Warriors found themselves
tied with division-leading South Shore at the end of regulation. In the
all-important shootout, Matthew Culot (2 goals) and Luke Miller (2 goals, 1 assist) found the back of the net, while Matthew Saraceno stood tall in net for the Warriors by saving three of the four South Shore attempts.
The VJW Junior B squad – has now won two of its last three games.
