Chris Kreider Signs Deal With New York Rangers
kreider_rangers.jpgJust days after leading his Boston College team to an NCAA title, former Valley Jr Warrior standout Chris Kreider signed a deal with the New York Rangers and will look to help his new team win a Stanley Cup title.

Kreider, who was selected by the Rangers in the first round (19th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, made the decision to forgo his senior season to pursue his professional dreams.

After spending more than 10 years in a VJW jersey, Kreider went on to a successful high school career at Phillips Academy and Masconomet before committing to Boston College where he spent three successful seasons.

Update - Kreider was in the lineup on April 16 for the Rangers' 2-1 victory over the Senators. He played 11 minutes.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Kreider recorded 92 points - 49 goals and 43 assists - in 114 games. He led all Boston College players with 45 points - 23 goals and 22 assists - in 44 games this winter.

Despite not playing in one professional game to date, Kreider explained - during a press conference held earlier this week - why he made the decision to join the Rangers in time for the team’s playoff run.

“There were several different ways to look at it, but they (the Rangers) were pretty adamant about getting started and getting down here as soon as possible,” said Kreider as quoted in an April 11 New York Daily News article. “So I wanted to do that, I wanted to help however I could.”

Although Kreider did not suit up for the team’s first playoff game on Thursday (the Rangers defeated Ottawa by a score of 4-2) -  he will be cheering his new team on come Saturday when the Rangers look to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Congratulations and best of luck to Chris Kreider!
