The VJW Junior A team saw its 2012-2013
season come to an end on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Vault in New Jersey.
The Warriors dropped two games in two days to the Jersey Hitmen and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of
the 2012 EJHL Gary Dineen Cup Playoffs.
It marked the end of a season for the VJW Junior A squad which posted a
27-16-2 record to finish third overall in the Northern Division.
playoff time arrived, the Warriors drew a first-round matchup with New
York Apple Core. The Warriors were impressive as they posted a 1-1
overtime tie the first night but then roared back with a 3-0 decision
the following day to advance to the quarterfinals for the second
Unfortunately for the Warriors, the magical ride came to an end as they suffered back-to-back defeats to the Hitmen
, who were playing on their home ice. Scoring for the Warriors in those two games were Devin Smith (Grafton, MA), Max Lorenzen (Leesburg, VA) and Ben Balsama (Sewell, NJ).
Leading the team
offensively this season was Trevor Braun (Windham, ME), who finished with 54 points in 45 games. Braun was one of four standout players from the VJW Junior A team who was selected to the 2012 EJHL All-Star Game earlier this year. Also enjoying that honor were Brett Mason (Rowley, MA), Conor Riley (Massena, NY) and netminder Fabian Sivnert (Hollviken, Sweden). John Jackson (Bixby, OK) was also named as an alternate.
Here are a few additional news and notes.
- Beginning with the 2012-2013 season, the Valley Jr. Warriors will field a Full-Season U-16 team. This
team - which is open to all ’96, ’97 and ’98 born players - will be
part of the newly-formed EJHL U-16 that was introduced by the league.
- Fabian Sivnert (Hollviken, Sweden) - who finished as one of the top netminders in the EJHL - accepted a four-year scholarship to Bemidji State University.
- Forward Mark Meads (Middleton, MA) signed on to play for Bentley College for the 2012-13 season.
- Defenseman Conor Riley (Massena, NY) accepted a
four-year scholarship to play for Maine.
