VJW Junior A Defenseman Conor Riley Heading to Maine
Head Coach Andy Heinze said that Conor Riley(Massena, NY) is probably the best defenseman that his VJW program has ever had.
Obviously the coaching staff at the University of Maine feels the same way.
The VJW Junior A blueliner who has established himself as one of the most dominating defensemen recently announced that he had accepted a four-year scholarship to play with the Black Bears.
Riley, a former Albany Academy standout, has taken on a lead role on special teams this season and has become one of the top defensemen in the Easter Junior Hockey League (EJHL). Not only was he an EJHL Defensive Player of the Week earlier this year, but he was one of four Warriors to be named to the 2012 EJHL All Star team.
“He is simply a true Division I talent,”
said Heinze of Riley who leads the team in +/-. “He rarely loses a puck
in the corner and can always be trusted to come through for us. It was no surprise that so many coaches were interested in him because he is such an outstanding and committed player."
His potential is clearly unlimited. This year marks only the second year
that Riley, who stands at 6-1 and 180 pounds - has played defense and
Heinze noted that Riley’s potential is unlimited.
“I am excited to see his game grow in Orono,” said Heinze. “He he has
the ability and drive to be an impact player at that level.”
Riley has been a key reason why the Warriors are enjoying another strong
season and sit in third place in the Northern Division. Through 37
