The VJW Junior As continued to roll in league play.
Andy Heinze's talented squad took part in the New England Huskies Showcase in Fitchburg this past weekend and collected two more key wins to extend the team’s winning streak to four games.
Following a sweep of the Green Mountain Glades one week ago, the Warriors knocked off the Springfield Pics and Apple Core on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
On Friday, the Warriors jumped out to a two goal lead after the first of two periods thanks to tallies by JohnNeedham(Medford, MA) and John Rogeri(Katy, TX). Devin Smith (Grafton, MA)
added the team’s third goal at the 18:46 mark of the second period to
extend the lead to 3-0. Springfield got one back minutes later, but the
Warriors were strong defensively once again as they held their opponent
to just one goal and then sealed the victory with an empty netter by Nicholas Pichette (Massena, NY) with just seven seconds remaining. One day later, the Warriors spotted arch rival Apple Score one goal in
the first minute, but outscored them 2-to-1 through the rest of
regulation en route to a 2-1 victory. Netting goals for the Warriors
were Rogeri and John Celli(Leominster, MA), who has posted one point in four of the team’s last five games.
Fabian Sivnert(Sweden) made 40 saves on 42 shots to earn two wins between the pipes.
As a result of their continued strong play, the Warriors stand just
three points out of second place in the Northern Division. Next up is a
pair of away games against Capital District on Saturday and Sunday.
