Warriors Sweep Glades to Move Into Third in Northern Division
Despite playing in one of the league’s toughest divisions, the Valley Jr Warriors Junior A team continues to improve and move upwards in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) standings.
The Warriors are coming off a weekend sweep of the Green Mountain Glades and currently stand in third place in the Northern Division with 14 wins and 29 points... just three points out of second place. Four critical league points were delivered this past weekend when the Warriors - led by a four-goal explosion by John Jackson (Bixby, OK) - halted a two-game losing street on their home ice.
It all began on Saturday at the Haverhill Valley Forum when the Warriors stormed back from an early 1-0 deficit and scored five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 win over the Glades. Leading the charge in that game was Jackson, who netted three goals including the game winner at the 3:41 mark of the third period.
Also finding the back of the net in that contest were Connor McStravick (Philadelphia, PA) and Trevor Braun (Windham, ME). Braun - who leads the team with 16 goals in 25 games - has scored at least one point in five of the team’s last seven games. Conor Riley (Massena, NY), who has taken a lead role on the VJW special teams unit, added two power-play assists.
The following night saw much of the same dominance as the Warriors
scored three unanswered goals through the first two periods and held on
for the 4-1 decision. This time it was Braun who scored once and
assisted on another goal and McStravick who added one goal and one
assist. John Celli (Leominster, MA) scored his fourth of the season to round out the gamesheet.
All fourteen EJHL teams - including the Valley Jr Warriors - will be in
action this coming weekend at the New England Huskies Showcase at the
Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg, MA. The Warriors will face off
against Springfield on Friday and Apple Core on Saturday.
