VJW Junior Squads Perform Well at the 2011 Warrior Classic
It was an exhausting three days of hockey, but the Valley Jr Warriors hosted another successful Warrior Classic. This year’s event - which was held at the Haverhill Valley Forum and Merrimack College - featured a field of 28 teams.
Some of the top teams in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) and Empire Hockey League played key league contests, while nine other teams hailing from all parts of North America faced off in the Independent division.
The VJW Junior As came through with another impressive weekend of play as they won two out of three games. Key victories came against Rochester on Saturday and then against the Palm Beach Jr. Hawks on Sunday. First - on Friday afternoon - the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0
first-period lead but watched as the Philadelphia Revolution stormed
back to capture the 4-3 win. In that game, John Jackson(Bixby, OK), Devin Smith(Grafton, MA) and Mark Meads(Middleton, MA) all scored for the Warriors.
One day later, the VJW Junior As played inspired hockey as they scored
once in the first and once in the second period en route to a 2-0
victory. Marcus Moles(Lake Placid, NY) netted his second goal - a power-play tally off an assist from Max Lorenzren(Leesburg, VA) of the season, while Trevor Braun(Windham, ME) continued his stellar play with an empty netter at the 24:37 mark of the final stanza. Fabian Sivnert(Hollviken, Sweden) was perfect in net as he turned back 18 shots.
The Warriors finished off the weekend on Sunday with a strong 3-1 win
over the Palm Beach Jr. Hawks. The VJW Junior As - which stand in third
place in the EJHL’s Northern Division - will take on the Springfield

decision over the Apple Core Empire on Friday - and two losses during
the 2011 Warrior Classic. Although the team is looking to make a move in
the Empire’s Eastern Conference, the Warriors have already received
great offensive contributions from the team’s leading scorer - Scott Morrison - who has netted 17 goals and eight assists in 14 games. Also producing well thus far has been Cam Askew with eight goals and 12 assists as well as Luke Miller who has added 10 points.
