Four VJW Squads Fare Well at 2011 Bauer International Challenge
bauer_logo2011.jpgFollowing three days of exciting and top-level competition, the Valley Jr Warriors performed well against some of the nation's top talent at the 2011 Nike Bauer International Invitational, which was held this past weekend in Chicago, Illinois.

A total of four VJW squads - '97 Elites, '99 Elites, '00 Elites and '01 Elites - made the trek and two teams advanced to the playoffs.


Before the VJW '01 Elites were defeated by the Mississauga Sens (the #5 ranked team in the Ontario 01 AAA Rankings) in the Sweet Sixteen, the young team came through with an impressive 1-0 win over the #11-ranked
Chicago Young Amer, IL on Friday. The Warriors posted a 2-0-1 round-robin record to advance to the playoffs.

In the 97 AAA Elite bracket, the
VJW '97 Elites - ranked #4 in the nation according to www.myhockeyrankings.com - posted four wins during the round-robin portion of the event and earned a spot in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the ride came to an end when the Warriors suffered a 3-2 defeat against the 97E Detroit Compuware MI on Sunday morning.
All four teams will return home to continue play in the NEHL. Great job by all!

EVENT PREVIEW
It is that time of the year when the world’s top youth hockey teams come together to compete in one city (Chicago) at the Bauer International AAA Invitational. This annual event is one of the largest in North America as it brings together more than 400 teams and 7,300 players who compete in a total of 907 games over a three-day period.

Making the trek to Illinois this weekend are four VJW squads - ’97 Elites, ’99 Elites, ’00 Elites and ‘01 Elites. A complete schedule has been posted on the event's home page. All teams will take to the ice beginning on Friday, November 4th.

Bauer International AAA Invitational can be found online at www.invitebauer.com. Here is a summary of the divisional formats and games scheduled for the four VJW teams.

Format: 1997 Elite AAA Division will comprise of eight (8) brackets of five (5) teams each. Teams will play each team in their own bracket once (4 games). The top team in each bracket (8 teams) after the round robin will advance to the quarter final, semi final and championship round for the "USHL Cup". Every other team will have completed the tournament.

Friday, November 4

The top two (2) teams in each bracket (16 teams) after the round robin will advance to the sweet sixteen, quarter final, semi final and championship round. Teams finishing 3rd or 4th in their bracket will play a fouth and final game with a similar finisher in a different bracket.

Teams finishing 3rd or 4th in their bracket will play a fourth and final game with a similar finisher in a different bracket.
