To say it has been a memorable high school hockey season for many Valley Jr Warriors players would be an understatement.
On the heels of a Super 8 Championship game which featured 17 former Warrior players, the Salem Evening News released its Year-in-Review story that highlights four outstanding VJW players - Shane Eiserman, Colin Blackwell, Andrew Irving and Jake Kulevich (shown right while playing for his Marblehead HS team).
As Sports Editor Phil Stacey said it best, "The 2010-11 high school hockey season will go down as one of the best
in recent memory for a myriad of reasons, but most certainly because of
the players, games and instances listed below. Enjoy a final look back
at the year that was as the Zamboni makes its final turn around the
Here is why those former VJW players made Stacey's Super Six!
LW — Shane Eiserman, St. John's Prep: Had perhaps the greatest freshman
season in North Shore hockey history, scoring 24 goals and 52 points
and helping guide the Eagles to within one game of a Super 8
C — Colin Blackwell, St. John's Prep: He had no peer when it came to
the title of 'Best Player in the State'. Ended his career with 33 goals
and 66 points to finish with 70-62-132 totals before heading off to play
at Harvard this fall.D — Jake Kulevich, Marblehead. One of the area's best pure skaters,
this immense talent piled up 32 points despite missing some early season
games due to injury, then netted two goals as the Headers won their
long-awaited state title.
D — Andrew Irving, Beverly. Sophomore blueliner's skills can be
absolutely ridiculous at times, the way he sees the ice so well and
skates effortlessly by opponents as if he's by himself dodging cones on a
pond. Greatly improved in D zone this past season as well.
Congratulations to all of the former VJW players on a great high school season!!
