VJW Junior A Team Skates to Key Playoff Win over Revolution
The Valley Jr Warriors Junior A team exploded for three unanswered goals in the second period en route to a dominating 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Revolution during the first round of Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) playoffs held on Tuesday evening at the Haverhill Valley Forum.
The Warriors - the third seed out of the Northern Division - need to be the first to collect three points in order to advance to the quarterfinals. On this day, the Warriors were dominant on both sides of the ice. Andrew Bonazza(Dartmouth, MA) scored twice and Chris Eiserman (West Newbury, MA) collected 32 saves to lead the way.Following a scoreless first period, it took less than three minutes before Max Lorenzen (Leesburg, VA)
found the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Bonazza
followed with his first tally of the game at the 12:32 mark, and then Josh Woody(Sunderland, MD)
- who finished the game with two points - capped off a dominating
period with his 19th goal of the season with just seven ticks of the
clock remaining in that stanza.
Strong netminding, smart defense and a continued offensive attack held
the Revolution at bay through the final 20 minutes. The visiting team
from Philadelphia managed to find the back of the neck midway through
the third period, but Bonazza sealed the victory with a shorthanded
empty netter at the 18:04 mark.
The Warriors and Revolution will face off again on Wednesday afternoon
at 2:20 p.m. at the Haverhill Valley Forum. The Warriors need a tie or
win in order to advance to the quarterfinals in this
first-to-three-points playoff format.
