Randolph High School has one of the most energetic, industrious,
congenial and respected athletes you will ever meet. His name is Godred
Mbengam (pronounced "Bengam").
To give you an idea of how he makes an
instant impression, he has been captain of his track team since his
freshman year and captain of the soccer team since his sophomore year.
How he got to where he is will make you stand up and cheer. Godfred was
born in Cameroon,
which is on the west coast of Africa. His mother died when he was young
boy. Godfred and his 5 siblings lived in an orphanage until he was
thirteen when his aunt transported Godfred, his brothers and sisters, to
Randolph. By the time he got to high school he had a thirst for
learning and leadership and he had already built a solid reputation.
"The struggles I have gone through in my life, I take them as a
challenge and use them to motivate myself to be better," Godfred tells
me with pride. "There are no excuses in life, you have to go get it, so
I'm working hard to the best of my ability to be the best I can."
Godfred wants to be an Marine Engineer
so he called Mass Maritime and asked what course he should take to give
him the best chance to be accepted. The response was - Advanced
So Godfred enrolled and has earned a solid B thus far. He is a
peer leader, a member of the National Honor Society
and was recently accepted at Mass Maritime. Not bad for someone who has
been in this country for 5 years.
"I never give up, I keep fighting and
believe that one day my dreams will come true. I never give up."
half a world away, Godfred Mbengam is climbing to the top of his world.
