Two former VJW players – Cameron Darcy and Brendan Silk – played key roles for the U.S. National Under-17 Team which captured the 2011 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament title in Piestany, Slovakia this past week. Darcy and Silk were members of the 2009-2010 VJW Midget squad before they took their game to the national and international stage.
Darcy was particularly dominating at this latest event as he scored four goals in three games – including the game winner against Switzerland – to lead his team to a 3-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) tournament record.
The 6’1, 180-pounder from South Boston will
finish off the year with Team USA before heading off to Northeastern
for the 2011-2012 season.
Silk, whose cousin Dave Silk was a member
of the 1980 US Olympic team that completed the “Miracle on Ice”,
finished the tournament with two assists. Prior to his time with Team
USA, Silk netted 21 goals and 14 assists in 22 games during his final
season at Austin Prep. The 6-1, 160 pound winger from Wakefield has
already committed to play for Boston College.
