Shawsheen Valley Regional Technical School draws
students from numerous cities and towns. The curriculum trains their
students for a number of different vocations. Shawsheen competes in a
number of sports but none brought the school as much attention and glory as
their recent Super Bowl win and the event that followed.
To understand and
appreciate how this task was so difficult, you have to know the Ram's weekly
routine. Every week the student athletes alternate between going to class and
working in their chosen vocation. For example - one week everybody gets up at 6:00 a.m.
and is working with a plumber, electrician, welder or a roofer. The hard work
continues until 3:00 p.m. and then it's back to Shawsheen for two and a half hours of

they show up and give me 100% in practice every day," says coach Al Costabile.

"Family" was the theme of this team since the start
of training camp. By Thanksgiving they had won their league title and were on
their way to the Division 4 Super Bowl. One minor problem, the day of the super

At ten o'clock in the morning of Saturday, December 4th, Shawsheen took
the field against Blue Hills. Shawsheen had never won a Super Bowl,
their only Super Bowl appearance was in 1978 and it ended in a
loss. The Rams broke open a 6-6 tie with two fourth-quarter touchdowns
win the school's first ever Super Bowl.
Coach Costabile got an ice bucket shower
on the field. His players danced and celebrated and each member embraced the
trophy, but the best was still to come for the coach. He went home,
showered again, put on his tuxedo and played father of the bride.
