Former VJW Junior A player Nick Marquis was recently named MASCAC Hockey Player of the Week! The sophomore at UMass-Dartmouth scored the game-winning goal in his team's 2-1 win against Salem State. In what was a battle for first place in the league, Marquis was also a major part of his team's penalty killing effort which saw the Corsairs kill all five power play opportunities. Through nine games, Marquis has collected two goals and two assists.

Marquis should feel right at home since he is joined on the UMass-Dartmouth team by four other former VJW Junior A players - senior Todd Bartelson, sophomore Dave McDonald and two seniors tied for second in team scoring - Joe HIll and Jason Stahl.
"Nick's goal was very important in determining
the outcome of the game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli.
"It was the game-winning goal. When you have a five minute power play,
you want to score at least once, and that goal gave us a two-goal
cushion. Our second power play unit of Marquis, (sophomore forward) Dave
McDonald (Wakefield, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) and (junior forward)
Mike Owens (South Boston, MA/Boston Jr. Bulldogs-EJHL) has accounted for
three of our four power play goals this season."
Since Marquis was honored by the league, the
team has gone on to win three straight thanks to key performances by
Hill (two goals against Framingham State) and Stahl (scored the tying
goal in an overtime thriller against Stonehill).
