The Junior “A” Warriors dropped three contests this past weekend at the Jr. Bruins Tournament in Marlboro. The three-day tournament took place at the New England Sports Center with the Warriors facing the Baystate Breakers, Jersey Hitmen and the South Shore Kings.
In Friday’s game against the Breakers, the Warriors staked the Breakers to a 5-0 lead before Erik Nemec netted the first Warrior goal of the contest. Bay State then pushed its lead back to five, but Trevor Braun scored the second goal for the 6-2 margin of victory of the Breakers. Nemec ended the day with a goal and an assist. Greg Hussey picked up the loss in net for the Warriors, making 25 saves in the contest. The Breakers took advantage of six power plays, converting on two of them, while the Warriors went did not convert any of the three power play opportunities they had.
Saturday’s game against the Hitmen started off the same way as Friday’s contest for the Warriors. Jersey jumped out to the 3-0 lead in the first period of action. The Warriors cut the advantage to 3-1, as Zach Sarig scored with 1:58 left in the opening frame, but that would be the only marker for the Warriors. The Hitmen added their fourth goal of the contest in the second period for the 4-1 victory. The Warriors again allowed a pair of power play tallies, but they netted one of their own in this contest. Tom Conlin got the call in net for the Warriors making 24 saves in the defeat.
The Warriors fell to 2-3 on the season after dropping the third game in three days to the South Shore Kings, 4-1. The Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first frame. Braun cut into the lead for the Warriors just three minutes into the second frame, but the Warriors could not get any closer as the Kings netted a fourth goal later in the second session for the margin of victory. The Warriors could not take advantage of eight power play opportunities, as they could only manage one goal. Conlin got the call again to start in net for the Warriors, making 26 saves in the contest.
On the weekend, Braun netted a pair of markers, while Nemec finished with a goal and an assist. Andrew Bonazza collected a pair of helpers for the Warriors over the Weekend.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, October 2 as they host the Bridgewater Bandits at the Haverhill Forum with face-off set for 8:10 pm.
