VJW '97 Elites Punch Ticket to USA Hockey Nationals in April
Pack your bags!
That should be the new cry of the Valley Jr Warriors '97 team after they claimed the Massachusetts State Championship and earned a trip to USA Hockey Nationals. The Valley Jr Warriors '97 team (shown right), currently ranked ninth in the country, capped off a dominating playoff performance on Sunday by defeating the South Shore Dynamos by a score of 7-2. En route to the championship victory, the Warriors also defeated the South Shore Dynamos (9-1), NorthStars (6-2) and NV River Rats (5-0). This most recent post-season run was nothing new for this team which amassed a 29-0 record in league play. During that stretch, the Warriors posted a 252 goal differential.
Now that the team has captured this year's Massachusetts State Championship, the team will set its sights on the USA Hockey Nationals which will be held on April 7-11 at the Amherst Pepsi Center in Williamsville, New York. This latest achievement marks a continuation of strong play by national-bound Warrior squads. Over the past seven years, the VJW Peewee Major teams have won five out of seven Massachusetts Tier I Championships.
It has truly been a season of destiny for this talented squad which is led by head coach Paul Sacco and a talented crew of assistant coaches including the VJW Director of Player Development Steve MacAdams. The team began the season by winning the Warrior Showcase in August and then the Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament. They continued to challenge themselves by competing in some of the top youth tournaments in the country including the 2009 Bauer Challenge Cup in Ontario, Canada.
Congratulations to the team... and best of luck at Nationals!
