Valley Jr Warriors '98 Elites Take On Bell Capital Cup Challenge
The Valley Jr Warriors ’98 Elites are ringing in the New Year in winning fashion. The Warriors traveled to Ottawa this week to take part in the 11th Annual Bell Capital Cup, the world's premier atom and peewee hockey tournament. This year’s field will be one of the strongest to date as it includes 502 teams from six different countries, including Canada (three provinces, one territory), China, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the United States (with representation from 14 individual states).
During the first day of action, the Valley Jr Warriors ’98 Elites proved that they can compete with even the best as they posted a tie against the Quinte Red Devils before blanking the New Jersey Devils by a score of 4-0. One day later, the Warriors posted their second win of the event - a 4-2 decision against the Kanata Blazers. The team wrapped up their experience up North by dropping a game to the Detroit Little Caesars, a team ranked number two in the national rankings.

It has been another impressive season for head coach John Cusack and his team. The Warriors have been dominating in league play as they have posted a 16-0-3 record in the New England Hockey League (NEHL). Earlier this season, the coaching staff decided to challenge the players by scheduling a weekend scrimmage series against Team Comcast. After falling behind 2-0 in its first game, the Warriors went on to win both games and outscore the Maryland-based powerhouse by an 11-to-3 margin.
Since that time, the team has continually raised its level of play and has been simply dominant in league and tournament play. In addition to its impressive stretch of league victories since September, the Warriors took a break during the holidays to capture the 2009 Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament title in Haverhill. En route to claiming the top prize, the team defeated tough competition in the Red Rangers, Connecticut Clippers, Seacoast Spartans, Assabet Patriots, Middlesex Braves and Northstar Selects.
