Former VJW Star Kreider Named to the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team
Chris Kreider received an early Christmas present from USA Hockey. The former Valley Jr Warriors standout was one of 22 players selected for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship from December 26, 2009 to Jan. 5, 2010, in Saskatoon and Regina, Sask.
Kreider, a former member of Ken Cleary’s VJW U-18 team who was named to Team USA's preliminary roster earlier this month, scored three goals in two exhibition games prior to the announcement of the 22-man roster. The U.S. Junior squad defeated North Dakota, 4-2, on Saturday, Dec. 19 and lost to the Czech Republic in a shootout, 3-2, on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Kreider scored twice against the Fighting Sioux and once against the Czechs.
Team USA will face Slovakia on Saturday, Dec. 26 in its first game of the 2010 World Junior Championship. The game is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST) and will be aired live on the NHL Network.
Since leaving the Warriors, the 6’2”, 206-pound Kreider was selected as the No. 19 pick at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers and has enjoyed a strong freshman season for Jerry York and the Boston College Eagles as he has posted five points in 14 games.
