Led by a two-goal performance by Eric Pedro, the Valley Jr Warriors 99 Elites scored three unanswered goals en route to an impressive 5-1 victory over the Red Rangers in the divisional final of the 2009 Warrior National Showcase.
The two teams were knotted at one goal apiece midway through the second period after Connor Leach and Pedro scored for the Warriors and Anthony Sciucco netted a tally for the Red Rangers. It was at the 4:23 mark of the second period, however, when the Warriors began their offensive run. Jack Keane, Pedro and AaronHarmon all scored in succession while the Warriors defense held the a Red Rangers offense – which up to that point had exploded for 33 goals in five games – at bay for the championship win.
The early morning wake-up call did not have a negative effect on the Red Rangers and the Valley Jr Warriors Elites who both skated to semifinal victories in Haverhill. The Red Rangers continued their impressive play by scoring two unanswered goals in the third period to post a 5-2 win over New Brunswick. Five different players – Kevin Murphy, Sean Sullivan, Anthony Sciucco, Alex Maffeo and Dominic Malatesta – scored for the Red Rangers in the winning effort. Peyton Hoyt scored twice, both off of feeds from Matthew Palmer, for New Brunswick.
The Valley Jr Warriors Elites, meanwhile, found a way past the Valley Jr Warriors Selects in the other semifinal contest. Jack Keane led the way with two goals and one assist. Michael Reilly also scored twice and Connor Leach and Matthew Quercia both added one goal and two assists each for the Elites. Samuel Stone was the lone scorer for the Selects squad.
