Carroccio & Ward Shine at US Hockey Camp

Bennett Carroccio and Brian Ward will have a lot to talk about this fall when asked what they did this past summer. Carroccio and Ward, who play for the Valley Junior Warriors U-18 and U-16 teams, respectively, competed in the 2008 USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp in Rochester last month. With Carroccio on the Navy and Ward on the Gray Teams, both players represented the VJW Program well.

Coming off a strong season with  Ken Cleary’s U-18 Midget team, Carroccio was well poised to compete well at the 2008 USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp.

The 6-0, 180-pound defenseman originally from New York, wore No. 7 in camp and played in five games in Rochester. When not competing for the blue and gold, Carroccio is a rising junior at Phillips Andover Academy and is a critical cog in Coach Dean Boylan’s Big Blue defensive corps.

Also attending the 2008 USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp and suiting up for the Grey Team was Brian Ward, a key member of Mike Holubowich’s VJW U-16 Midget team.

In five games with the Grey Team in Rochester, Ward posted one goal and one assist in five games. Ward, who will be a junior at The Governor’s Academy this fall, is no stranger to national attention as he participated in the USA Hockey Select 14 Player Development Camp last summer.

The 2008 USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp was held from June 21 to June 27.  The participating athletes were chosen from tryouts conducted within USA Hockey Districts.
